Survivors Benefit

Description

A benefit paid to an unemployed spouse or cohabiter of a deceased provided that the surviving spouse was depending on the deceased. If the latter has underage children who were depending on the deceased, they will automatically qualify for dependent benefit.

Eligibility

  • The surviving spouse must be above 45 years old and was depending entirely on the deceased
  • At the time of death the person is the legal spouse or common-law partner of the deceased contributor
  • The surviving spouse is not in paid employment or self-employed
  • The surviving spouse does not cohabit or marries another person during the period of receiving the benefit

Validity

For a period of one year

Documents Required

  • Valid ID cards
  • An active bank account details,
  • Death Certificate of the deceased
